Why Estimate Standing Reach from Height?
Your standing reach is the maximum height you can touch flat-footed with one arm extended fully overhead. It is a critical metric for basketball players because it determines the starting height for jumping calculations. While measuring it physically is the most accurate method, you can estimate it using structural multipliers.
The Anthropometric Reach Ratio
For the average human, standing reach is approximately **1.33 times** height. This means a 6'0" (72 inches) player will have a standing reach of roughly 8'0" (96 inches). However, wingspan directly affects this calculation. A player with a positive Ape index will have longer arms, raising their shoulders and hands further, which increases their standing reach by 1.5 to 3 inches.
