Grip Capacity and Ball Diameter
Your ability to grip or palm a basketball is determined by your hand's physical coverage area relative to the ball's circumference. A larger hand span allows you to place friction points further around the sphere's curvature, keeping the ball secure against gravity. The three standard basketball sizes have different dimensions:
- Size 7 (Standard Men's): Circumference of 29.5 inches (75 cm), diameter of 9.5 inches (24 cm). Requires the largest hand spread to palm securely.
- Size 6 (WNBA / Intermediate): Circumference of 28.5 inches (72.4 cm), diameter of 9.1 inches (23 cm).
- Size 5 (Youth): Circumference of 27.5 inches (70 cm), diameter of 8.8 inches (22 cm).
