Checking Your Physical Capacity to Dunk

The "Can I Dunk?" calculator evaluates whether your physical specifications (overhead reach and vertical leap) are sufficient to clear a standard 10ft rim (120 inches). To dunk successfully, you cannot just touch the rim. You must jump high enough to place your wrist above the metal hoop, allowing you to force the ball down. This requires at least 6 inches of clearance, meaning your hand must reach a height of 126 inches.

Analyzing the Dunking Formula

The calculator uses standard addition to find your maximum jump touch height:
\[\text{Peak Jump Touch} = \text{Standing Reach} + \text{Vertical Jump}\]

If your Peak Jump Touch is equal to or greater than 126 inches, you are physically capable of dunking. If your touch is between 120 and 125 inches, you can touch or grab the rim, but cannot dunk. If it is under 120 inches, you cannot touch the rim yet.
